Creative Paper Topic

My creative paper topic will be on fashion focusing mainly on Twiggy entwining the feminists movement. Working out all of the kinks will be the hard part. The main reason I am picking fashion is because Twiggy made her mark on the fashion industry and still lives up to that reputation today. Plus, it's a real easy topic to be creative with.

In Country Bobbie Ann Mason

In Country was a book of many characteristics. With twisting plot, the book takes many flashbacks throughout. The author tries to convey her point through an eighteen-year-old girl who is in search of her father's identity who in turn is in search of her own as well. She leads us on what seems like a forever journey. Being a fan of horror novels, especially Stephen King, this book was not a favorite of mine. However, this book is not to be taken lightly. It has very mature parts in it that young minds shouldn't have to experience. With many themes entwined, it definitely makes for an "okay" reading for college freshmen students.

"Illusions are Forever"

A perfect quote form the story is "When traditional signals of authority are so misleading, how can we know what's for real?" The quote turns the prospective around allowing for the reader to answer "truthfully". The entire story is based upon the word "truth". So, what is "personal truth"? Its defined as your own opinion of the matter, I think. It's hard to tell what Chiat's underlying meaning with his quote on technology. I believe he does mean that the Internet helps us in determining a personal truth. It allows us to decide on our own what we believe in and not what someone else wants us to believe in. I believe that people should accept their own personal truth rather than allowing those in power to influence it for them. By allowing those in power to influence your truth, a person's realm of ideas is influenced therefore taking away a true meaning to a person's own truth. My personal truth may be different than yours however, if unaffected by those in power both truths have a meaning to them that can not be disputed.

Response to "The Art of Eating Spaghetti"

What is good writing? What defines good writing? The very first time I read The Catcher in the Rye was when I discovered what good writing was. I remember picking up the book because it had such a plain cover and my Tenth Grade English Honors teacher told me that it was a good book. I began reading the book and I discovered what good writing was. I could actually understand what was going on in the book. This to me was what good writing was. I enjoyed reading the book and although the book was way more mature than what I thought, the book entered me into an entire different world of writing styles. After reading the book, I realized that all writers have different techniques to convey what they mean. The book proved to me that good writing still exists. But then, I do think that good writing is like beauty. It is in the eye of the beholder. Who is to judge what good writing is? The book may have been good to me, while others may think quite the contrary. Although there are standards, no one can really define what good writing is because it is all of their own opinion. Or at least to me it is.
